Skeeter’s team of professional anglers finished the 2008 Bassmaster Elite Series season just as they started – on center stage hoisting a trophy, as Dean Rojas ended a seven-year drought, scoring a victory on New York’s Oneida Lake, the final Bassmaster Elite Series event of the season. With the victory, Rojas also surpassed the $1 million mark in career BASS earnings, ending the 2008 season in seventh place on the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings. “I worked hard for this victory, and everything seemed to fall into place this week,” says Rojas, of his victory. “The weather was constantly changing, so I had to be flexible with my locations, techniques and lures, and it paid off,” says Rojas. Rojas posted a four-day total of 65 pounds, 2 ounces, which was just enough to hold off fellow Skeeter teammate, Kevin Langill, who finished in second place. Half of the final day’s field was comprised of Skeeter anglers, including Dustin Wilks (4th), 2008 Bassmaster Classic Champion Alton Jones (6th), Bill Lowen (8th) and Mark Davis (12th). Wilks Back in Business – After two medical red shirt years, Skeeter’s Dustin Wilks returned to the Bassmaster Elite Series in 2008, scoring four top-25 finishes, and earning a spot in the 2009 Bassmaster Classic. Wilks broke a ligament in his elbow following the first Bassmaster Elite Series tournament in 2006, and has since had two operations to surgically repair the damage. “My elbow is feeling great, and It’s been refreshing to get back doing what I love to do,” says Wilks. Angler of the Year Race – Skeeter’s Todd Faircloth, leading the Angler of the Year standings heading into the final Elite Series tournament, finished second in the race, but has no regrets after an incredible year. “Winning the Angler of the Year would have been great, but this has been a dream season, and I hope to carry this momentum into the 2009 Bassmaster Classic,” says Faircloth. The Jasper, Texas-native scored an amazing nine top-25 finishes, including 1st place on Lake Amistad in the Lone Star Shootout. Skeeter ended the season with seven anglers in the top-25 of the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings.
