Team Skeeter’s Dave Mansue scored a victory in the seasonopening event of the Bassmaster Northern Open on the Chesapeake Bay, landing a three-day total of 47 pounds, 6 ounces, and besting many Elite Series anglers along the way.
“It’s an awesome feeling to have performed well under tough conditions, in a 190-boat field, consisting of 16 Bassmaster Elite Series pros and three prior Bassmaster Classic Champions,” says Mansue.
Mansue worked rocky outcroppings and boulders to bag his fish, and utilized the current to his advantage, fishing in a secluded spot away from the field.
The seasoned angler took home $49,114 for his victory, and sits atop the Northern Open’s points standings. If he can remain in the top seven at the end of the season, Mansue will qualify for the 2010 Bassmaster Elite Series season, while the top two anglers in the points standings will earn berths to the 2010 Bassmaster Classic on Lay Lake, outside of Birmingham, Alabama.
With the next Bassmaster Northern Open scheduled on Lake Champlain in August, Mansue plans to spend his time productively. “I’ve cashed a check in each of the five tournaments I’ve fished this year, including two Bassmaster Opens, two PAA events, and one local tournament. I’ll spend as much time on the water as possible in an effort to keep my skills sharp.”
In addition to working toward the ultimate goal of an invitation to the Bassmaster Classic, Mansue also hopes to qualify for the Professional Anglers Association Championship. “I have a long season ahead of me, but if I continue to work hard and fish well, I believe my goals are obtainable.”
