21st Annual Skeeter Lake Fork Owner's Tournament - 06-15-2014

Skeeter has once again held another record setting event at its annual Skeeter Owner’s Tournament, which was held June 12-15 at Lake Fork, Texas.  958 boats with over 1950 contestants were on hand who traveled from every corner of the United States attended the event.  These contestants produced a record number of big Bass caught, with 26 Bass that were over the lakes upper 24” slot limit.

“Our annual Owner’s Tournament is like a family reunion, and Lake Fork is a trophy bass fishing destination, and our owner’s always put the event on their schedule well in advance,” says Skeeter’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Ben Jarrett. “People view this as an inexpensive way to kick-off the summer with a short, quick vacation. Folks come to enjoy the vendors and sponsor exhibits, food, fishing lore, camaraderie and most importantly, the great Lake Fork Bass Fishing.”

Jarrett adds that each year, Skeeter’s Owner’s Tournament draws anglers from almost every state. “Folks come from everywhere, bringing spouses, friends, grandparents, kids and pets, booking hotel rooms for miles and often staying in recreational vehicles or camp sites, making it a true family reunion.”  While the event is built around having a good time, our owners are serious about the competition, as there is significant cash on the line for fishing well.”  Lake Fork is a “Trophy Bass” managed lake with a slot limit set for all Bass between 16” and 24” must be released after catching.  Only Bass under 16” and over 24” may be weighed in.

The event offered a host of family-fun activities, open to the general public, while Skeeter owners vied for more than $250,000 in cash and prizes, including a Skeeter FX20 powered by a Yamaha VMAX SHO 250 - won by Shawn Lemen with his largest ‘Over the Slot’ Bass weighing in at 9.81, and a Skeeter TZX190 powered by a Yamaha VMAX 150 won by David Behrensen with his largest ‘Under the Slot’ Bass weighing in at 2.66.

Cash payouts totaled $3,550 per hour, with each top hourly winner receiving a check for $700, providing 130 chances of walking away with a check during the two-day tournament.

All sponsors had factory booths where participants and attendees could see the newest tackle, fishing & boating accessories as well as take a Demo Ride in the newest Skeeter/Yamaha rigs.  The ArmyBassAnglers fishing teams were also on-hand fully rigged with many exciting activities for everyone with including a kiddie-fishing pond for family fun.

The Guide to Green competition was held on Saturday, matching the day’s hourly big bass winners in a two-hour, five-fish-limit shootout with Team Skeeter anglers and local Lake Fork guides.  Curt Culbertson, the winner, received an all-expense paid trip for two to the Bassmaster Classic in Upcountry Greenville, South Carolina next February including VIP credentials.

We are very pleased with the support we received for the ‘Boat Load of Toys’ promotion. Each contestant was required to bring a toy to put their name in the hat for a drawing of a Yamaha ATV four wheeler.  All the toys will benefit several East Texas-based charities that help donate gifts to underprivileged children at Christmas.
